Why we weave MADE IN HUDDERSFIELD into the cloth
Every Blue Label quality carries its place of origin in the selvedge itself — not printed on the surface, but woven into the cloth during weaving.
Most provenance claims are printed. Ours is woven. Every piece in the Blue Label — Hunter, Traveller and Huddersfield — carries MADE IN HUDDERSFIELD in the selvedge, laid in during weaving rather than added afterwards.
The reason is simple. A printed mark can be copied, and it can be removed. A selvedge that is part of the cloth cannot be separated from it, and it cannot be reproduced by a mill that is not making the cloth. When a customer questions provenance, you can hand them the piece and let them read it.
Huddersfield has been shorthand for fine worsted since the nineteenth century. It is where the trade's spinning, weaving and finishing traditions were codified, and it remains the reference point for what English cloth is supposed to be.
